How to Customize Windows 8 Start Screen

This is an article about basic customization of Windows 8 start screen. Customizing Windows 8 Start screen is very easy. By default, Windows 8 start screen has already some apps pinned. You can see the live tiles of the apps installed. New apps are available in the Windows Store. To access the Store click the Store tile on the start screen. So you can add apps to start screen and easily access them as and when you wish. But do you know you can add your favorite websites, folders etc. to this start screen. Yep, you can easily customize Windows 8 start screen and pin folders, web sites etc. to it for quick access.

To add a website tile to your Windows 8 start screen, you need to use Windows 8 app commands. To access app command that using your mouse, right click within the app or an item. Then click Pin to Start to add the site to start screen. If you want to place a folder in the start screen go to / open the folder in File Explorer. Right click the folder and select Pint to Start.

Also you can easily change the position of the app tiles on the start screen by dragging them around. To change the size of an app tile right click on it and from the app command change the size to smaller or larger.

Some occasions, you may not see your favorite app placed in the start screen. If so, first ensure that the app is installed. You can do it by using the search charm in Windows 8 (Win+C). Select the app and right click on it to Pin it to Start.
